Wait a minute, that was our planet!

Wait a minute, that was our planet!

"Planet of the Apes ... wait a minute. Statue of Liberty ... That was OUR planet! You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to Hell!" – (Thanks to Best Simpsons Quotes for this and other gems)

Ok, we all know that Homer Simpson is an idiot but a group of scientist are predicting a nightmarish scenario in the making. If you think it all sounds like something out of the pages of science fiction, you'd be quite right. It's from the forthcoming instalment of Planet of the Apes to be precise.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, to be released on 5 August, addresses ethical issues arising from animal experimentation and the inherent dangers of tampering with nature. Now, a report issued by the UK Academy of Medical Scientists is calling for the banning of animal experiments, such as injecting human stem cells into the brains of primates if it ‘engenders human-like behaviour’. – Beware 'Planet of the Apes' experiments that could create sci-fi nightmare

This, says the Hindustan Times is "exactly the same scenario is portrayed in the new movie Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, in which scientists searching for an Alzheimer's cure create a new breed of apes with human-like intelligence."

Professor Martin Bobrow, a medical geneticist at Cambridge University and co-author of the report is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "We are trying to get this out in the open before anything has happened."

But as this video from YouTube demonstrates, maybe it already has happened. The prospect of an Ape Rising in the not too distant future may not be as far-fetched as we might think. You have been warned!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes – coming shortly to a cinema near you

Planet of the Apes re-booted: Will it get a Rise?

Watch trailers for the upcoming Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Release date is 5 August. There only short clips but, from what we've seen, we're pretty sure that it will never be as good as the original. Chances are it won't even be as good as any of the four sequels/prequels either. Prove us wrong!
